SUMMARY :: 3

We went down a back alley where a sign for the "Paradigm Athletic Club" showed an illustration of a slightly militaristic bodybuilder described by a golden orb. In that same alleyway we saw a large plastic tank leaking viscous brown fluid, a flyer advertising the health benefits of camomile tea, and a line of navy blue dumpsters that had been recently emptied. The alleyway was overlarge and that kind of dirtyclean that recalls archives and underground installations where important papers are stored for world posterity.

At the end of the alley we were met by another team, who had undertaken the algorithm on bicycles. They described how a metanarrative of traffic rules had defined some of their decisions, such as instances in which they would not have been permitted to go down a one-way street since they were traveling in the wrong direction. They had solved this by accepting these dictates and pretending, for example, that there was no path in a certain direction if they would not have been allowed to go down it. Their algorithm was far-reaching and had produced a bent left-leaning shape.

We met the assembled group at the cafe. One team reported that once they had arrived at the start of a loop and realized that their path would be repeated indefinitely, they repaired to the bar for a drink. The other team was full of stories from their foray in the parkade and reported a shared interest in nostalgic architectural traces. The group discussed metanarratives and pedestrianism until it became dark, and then we all went home.
